Diving - West Wales. Another
trip to Shore dive at St Brides. We went in at high tide, out to the West
side of the bay and back through the gulleys. Water temp' is a balmy 12
degrees, vis 6-8m, around here the max depth was 6.1m - saw usual spider
crabs, edible crabs, very small starfish, green wrasse, ballan wrasse
(one eating an unidentified wormy thing). |

Diving Stackpole Quay - Pembrokeshire It didn't look too inviting when we arrived, a bit murky to say the least (they're doing some building work on the harbour wall) and it was also a little choppy. But we swam outside the affected area before dropping down and the vis' was 3-4m. Big news was a shark attack! Well ok, a dogfish had enough of us looking at it so decided to take a very close look at Alex's mask! There were hundreds of spider crabs (mostly in big nets unfortunately), and loads of large white-bodied snails which no-one had seen before. Max depth 7.1, water temp 12 degrees. A very enjoyable dive |

Visit to Cardiff Hyperbaric Centre Thanks to the staff at the centre for an excellent visit. After a very informative tour we took a 42m 'pot dive' which produced some interesting effects! The centre is VERY impressive, and treats a wide variety of conditions in addition to DCI. |

July 10 Diving - West Wales After some bad weather in the first part of the week, we expected poor vis today. Decided on Martins Haven as the tides were good and it had been sheltered. It turned out to be a great choice! Vis was more than 5m with thousands of fish, jellyfish galore including a very impressive lions mane. Scallops everywhere, urchins, starfish, brittle stars, nudibranches and of course a small group of very happy divers. |
|
July 13 Diving at National Diving Centre - Chepstow. An evening dive at the NDC. The club was well represented and three groups dived different areas of the site. Rumours that the vis here was less than a metre are completely wrong and we enjoyed vis in excess of 5m. Some went for a deep dive while others enjoyed exploring the pipes and cabin cruiser. Fish life is limited, but we did spot a number of reasonable size perch. We all enjoyed the evening and hope to repeat this soon. |
|
July 24/25 Diving - West Wales. Club diving organised by Martin & Sue, Again the diving here turned out to be excellent. Masses of life about, Spider crabs, Jellyfish, Scallops, Lobsters and thousands of fish. A good time had by all. |
|
Sept 18 Diving - West Wales. No diving today with winds at force 6/7. Retired to the Galleon at Broadhaven, not a bad substitute for the afternoon! Decided to take a boat out onto the Cleddau Sunday afternoon. A bit choppy but fun. We found out that there is a river patrol here as they pulled us for speeding. After a slapped wrist and explanation of the various zones on the river, we were on our way again complete with a map of the river supplied by the patrol boat crew. |
|
October 2/3 Diving - West Wales. Weekend away camping at South Cockett Farm. High winds & lots of rain over the weekend mean't we couldn't even launch the boats, never mind go diving! Seven hardy souls stayed the weekend and we did have a good time. Thanks must go to Tammy & Adrian for their excellent hospitality which turned the whole weekend around. Tammy's curry & Adrians BBQ were the highlights. |
|
October 4 Club AGM at Splott Pool - 8:00 |
|
October 29 Diving - Dosthill. After losing out to the weather on the last few trips, we decided to try a late week dive at Dosthill. The day turned out to be overcast but no rain. With vis' brilliant at 10m+ and the water temp 12ºc the diving was very pleasant. There were thousands of fish to be seen including a large Pike which shot over the top of us trying to catch a Perch (it missed). A great day out. |
|
November 29 Night Diving - National Diving Centre. Club dive arranged tonight. Be at site by 6:00pm. Out of water by 8:00pm. See Dave Pring |

The end of another year. The number of trips cancelled due to poor weather feels like a new record, we hope next year will be a lot better. Well done to Ray Pasch & Richard Jones for passing their Club Diver exam, and Dave Pring who is now a Club Instructor. Very sadly we lost Dave Giles after a long illness. R.I.P. |
